In these uncertain economic times, choosing a career can be made all the more difficult by trying to predict what professions may have shortages of skilled labour or professionals in the future. However, there will always be jobs in architecture, so this can be a good choice.
Architecture can vary from designing new houses, to redesigning old houses in order to make them more modern. When the economy is in a downward cycle, more people look to have their houses re-modelled as opposed to having new ones built. When times are better, people will look for an architect to either design a new house, or to plan an extension on an existing one.
To become an architect requires many skills, such as a flair for design, combined with a head for mathematics, and an understanding of the laws surrounding either the construction or reconstruction of buildings among others.
Accumulating this knowledge in order to become an architect will involve lots of study, and also much training under another architect. There is only so much that one can learn at university, and this hands-on experience with other architects will prove invaluable.
When qualified, an architect can work on many projects, be it from designing a small extension to skyscrapers for the world's busiest cities. Literally, the sky is the limit!
